News in Lieu of Views

Since I’m still deciding which of the 588 pictures I took during our train ride this weekend I want to blog about, I thought I’d take a moment to share some news.

Yesterday, Ricki Schulz of My Daytime Drama announced the winners of her “Scare Me in 1,000 Words or Less” short story contest, and my entry, “What Doesn’t Make Us Stronger”, took second place! I think I’m actually more excited than if I’d gotten first place because this means I get a 10-page critique from Ricki. Feedback is writer’s gold, people. When you get a chance to have someone tell you what works and what doesn’t in something you’ve written, you grab it!

Over at RPGGeek.com, they’re getting closer to announcing the winners of the 2010 Golden Geek Awards. Yesterday they posted the top three finalists in each category — and Cthulhu Invictus made it to the short list for Best RPG Supplement! We’ll find out on November 17th if we won, although making it to the top three has us grinning pretty big already.

MACE is coming up, November 12-14. Once again, Chad and I will be there as gaming professionals. Chad’s running three games, and space permitting I’ll be sitting in on two of them. In fairness, I can’t play in the Victoriana game since I’m writing the scenario.

Chad’s Game Schedule:

Friday, 8 PM, Call of Cthulhu, “A Cold Shadow Shall Swallow Man”
Saturday, 1:30 PM, Call of Cthulhu, “00447”
Sunday, 9 AM, Victoriana, “Into the Unknown”

We won’t have a table this year, but we will bring copies of Cthulhu Invictus and maybe a few other things to sell. And, of course, we’re happy to sign things. Or just chat. So feel free to stop and say hi if you see us, and join us for a game or two.

Thanks, Ricki! It was a fun story to write. And thanks again for having the contest. I wouldn’t have written the story without it.

Congrats!!! I’m impressed – don’t really “get it” but am impressed and glad I know people who do “get it”!!

Thanks, Sharon and Gina! Now comes the hard part — deciding which story to have Ricki critique!
